Controversial plans to use a field at Bosley as a touring caravan and camp site have been withdrawn.

Happy Healthy Hub Ltd had applied to Cheshire East Council for permission to set up 74 pitches on the site, which is bordered by the A54 and A523 Leek Road.

The council's planning officers had recommended the scheme be refused on a number of ground, including no evidence had been submitted to demonstrate there is an identified need for it.

A 228-signature petition had been sent to Cheshire East Council opposing the scheme and 105 letters of objection were sent from neighbours, countryside charity CPRE, and other interested parties.

Councillors at Friday's meeting of the strategic planning board, when the proposal was due to be considered, were told the application had been withdrawn.

No reasons were given but the council's website says the application was withdrawn by the applicant three days before the meeting was due to take place.
