There's another new face on Chestergate, as a new greengrocer has opened their doors.

Just Fruit and Veg replaces Lord of the Pies on Chestergate's east side, and hopes Maxonians will consider buying their Christmas vegetables from a small business this year, instead of a supermarket.

Macclesfield resident Mark Boswell is the sole staff member of the new venture.

"Just Fruit and Veg is your friendly local greengrocers, with well-needed fresh produce for Macclesfield town centre," he said.

Mark claims his products will last longer, and is at a similar price to Tesco. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

"The response so far has been amazing. I've already got people coming over from Bollington just to support us.

"You can bring your own containers, a lot of our vegetables isn't sold in plastic unlike the supermarket.

"I'm open to feedback, since we opened fresh beetroot and butternut squash have been introduced. In the next couple of weeks we hope to introduce an organic range."

Originally from Middlewich, the lifelong Cheshire resident prides himself on a friendly service and price match to Tesco. (A significant factor given the store's proximity to Macclesfield's two Tesco sites).

In the first days of opening, they've also added Cheshire eggs and chestnuts to their stock range.

"My favourite product we sell is our Macclesfield potatoes from Massey's Farm in Gawsworth," added Mark.

"There's lots of English produce with the Lancashire leeks and swedes also selling well.

"I'm delighted to say that we are not a pop-up, contrary to belief. We are here to stay.

"I'm from the haulage industry initially, and moved to Macclesfield about 18 months ago.

"I live just around the corner and wanted a job in the town centre. So I thought what does Macclesfield need, and here we are now.

"I like to think it is the public's shop as much as it is mine. And if you buy your veg from here, you are also supporting Chestergate.

"We're in a great position as after buying your fruit and vegetables with us, you can go next door for your cheeses, or walk down to Park Green for your butchers.

Mark's business has already embedded itself into the small business community in Macc, including sharing other companies' posts on Facebook. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

"Thank you to everyone so far for your support. We've even had restaurants and other businesses coming in and using us which is great."

The new business also does delivery. If you plan to buy lots of vegetables this Christmas, why not get Mark to deliver it to your door?

They will also be selling pre-packed veg boxes to order. Simply get in touch on Facebook.

Just Fruit and Veg is located on 19 Chestergate.
