A car crash in Bollington occurred just before sunset yesterday.

The incident on Palmerston Street saw two people hospitalised.

Two cars were moving in the opposite direction, near to the entrance of Bollington Recreation Ground, when the incident occurred.

A witness, who arrived seconds after the crash but before police, and helped document it to assist the drivers with their insurance claims, told Macclesfield Nub News what happened after: "I was on my way home. The accident must have happened seconds before I arrived. There was no other traffic on the road and no pedestrians."

"I got out of my car and approached the vehicles, by which time a van had also pull over to give assistance."

"Myself and a van driver helped a man out of his car, he looked very distressed and was complaining about chest pains, we had to forcibly open the drivers door, petrol was leaking was his car so we felt the need to remove him from danger, then a pedestrian walking his dog joined to help us.

"The dog walker and van driver helped the injured driver to his van. I then went to the other driver, a male in his early 40's was saying that the other driver had come straight across the road into his direction when both vehicles made contact, he said he had no time to brake as the other car just ploughed straight into him, there was also an elderly lady in this car.

"The driver had minimal injuries so I gave comfort to the elderly lady, keeping her calm and assuring her that everything was ok, i asked her how she was and she said she was finding it difficult to breathe, i released her seatbelt and she said her breathing had eased a little.

"All airbags in both vehicles had deployed, no one was trapped or had visible injuries, but lots of distress and confusion was present.

"By this time, the dog walker had already called the emergency services and also a lady from another vehicle had called for help.

"Around 20 minutes later the police arrived and took control of the situation.

"I just hope everyone was ok and recovers quickly from this terrible accident."

"I left the incident about 45 minutes later, with the police in full control and knowing that the Ambulances and Fire Crew were en-route."

Cheshire Police were approached by Macclesfield Nub News for comment.

"At 3.52pm on Wednesday 6 December, police were called to reports of a collision on Palmerston Street, Bollington," a spokesperson said.

"The collision involved two vehicles. Both drivers were taken to hospital with injuries which are believed to be minor.

"A road closure was put in place while the incident was dealt with. Highways was also contacted due to oil on the road."

The road is no longer closed.
