Teenagers have already vandalised new play equipment at a Macclesfield park.

Police were called to West Park on Tuesday evening, August 25, following reports of anti-social behaviour.

Upon arrival, officers found that youths had been throwing bottles and spraying washing up liquid over the new 'Showstopper' tower.

Reports on social media suggest one youngster even urinated down the slide, however, this has not been confirmed by police.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At around 7.15pm on Tuesday, August 25, police were called to reports of anti-social behaviour at West Park, Macclesfield.

"The caller reported a group of youths who were spraying washing up liquid and throwing bottles on the play equipment.

"Officers attended and on arrival the youths had left the scene and there were no reports of any damage to the equipment."

The West Park 'Showstopper' only officially opened on Friday, August 21.

The largest single play installation of its kind in Cheshire East, it features a large, multi-level play tower with climbing walls, ladders, tunnels and an 'extreme' tube slide.

After hearing about the anti-social behaviour, Ben Ingham from B.I Window Cleaning took it upon himself to tidy up structure.

He said: "I had a big bucket of hot soapy water in the van and my window cleaning system, so figured it'd be easily resolved if I just did it as I was passing.

"I gave it all a really good rinse from the top of the slide, washed the hot soapy water down the slide, and then rinsed it all off afterwards with some clean water from the tank in my van. It's all good as new now!

"The most challenging part was climbing to the top of the frame to get to the top of the slide, it's not small!"

Ben added: "My own kids have been looking forward to playing on the new equipment.

"I'd hate to have just done nothing, knowing that it's a popular feature that's attracting a lot of attention at the moment as it's just opened.

"Honestly it was a 10 minute job and hardly even went out of my way to do it. I'm just glad everyone's kids can play on it again with it coming to the end of the school holidays."

Cheshire East Council and the Friends of West Park have been approached for comment.
