A building society with an office in Macclesfield have netted two awards.

Leek Building Society - which reopened their Macclesfield branch with a big refurb on Chestergate a fortnight ago - have been a fixture on Macclesfield's high street longer than most of us have been alive.

The local financial institution has just been named Best Building Society at the British Bank Awards.

They also won the award for 'Best Building Society Savings Provider', reinforcing its focus on providing members with competitive products and interest rates at a time when there has been a volatile rate environment amid the cost of living crisis.

Left to right: Ian Blurton – Head of Branch Network and Customer Support, Claire McCarthy – Head of Compliance and Secretariat, Darren Ditchburn – Deputy Chief Executive, Helen Wainwright – Director of Lending, and Tracey Birch – Head of Underwriting and Financial Support.

As well as their efforts leading to these two awards, 2022 saw the deposit base for the building society pass £1 billion for the first time.

Commenting on the Best Building Society award, Andrew Healy, Leek Building Society's Chief Executive, said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues most sincerely at all levels for consistently living our organisation's values and for delivering, in testing circumstances, exceptional service while maintaining the highest standards of corporate governance, compliance and risk management.

"And to our loyal members, thank you most sincerely for your ongoing support and words of encouragement.

"This year sees the Society celebrate the terrific milestone of 160 years of service and I have no hesitation in saying that we're stronger and more committed than ever to supporting you."

They also came close to winning a third award, as LBS as they were the only building society to be named as a finalist in this year's Top 50 Inspiring Workplaces Awards which took place last month.

They have also been announced as a finalist in two categories – Best Medium to Large Business and Best Employer – at the upcoming Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce awards.

A nomination which is in-part thanks to their five Macclesfield staff.

As well as Macclesfield, other nearby branches include the ones in Congleton, Stoke-on-Trent and Leek.
