In the last hour, it has been confirmed that Cheshire East Council leader Sam Corcoran has resigned.

Cheshire East Council Leader Cllr Sam Corcoran has resigned.

The Labour Sandbach Heath and East Councillor had led Macclesfield's largest form of local government since May 22 2019.

He was recently re-elected by one vote.

A no confidence vote was set for today.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service reporter Belinda Ryan has confirmed his resignation in a tweet just after 12pm.

The Council is currently meeting at Jodrell Bank near Macclesfield.

Cllr Corcoran's resignation comes just eight months after his long serving Deputy Craig Browne (Independent) also stepped down from his Deputy Leader role.
