Macclesfield choir has big plans to celebrate 70th anniversary and it's not too late to get involved
A choir is planning to celebrate its platinum anniversary in style.
Macclesfield Male Voice Choir turns 70 in 2025, having been founded in 1955.
To mark the occasion, a number of special events and concerts have been organised.
Speaking on behalf of the choir, Laurie Kennard said: "This anniversary gives the current members a chance to honour all those that preceded us over seven decades, and will hopefully continue for many more decades to come.
"The plans for 2025 include learning and performing some music that has been in the choir's library for many years, as well as bringing new songs into the concerts from more recent times. We hope our audiences will really enjoy this variety."
A busy 2024 for Macclesfield Male Voice Choir ended with a successful 'West End comes to Macclesfield' themed concert at St. Michael's Church.
There are already six main concerts booked in for the upcoming year, with shows in Macclesfield, Knutsford, Congleton and Wilmslow.
Laurie added: "The choir will always welcome new members and January is a good time to come along to their rehearsals and take a listen and join in.
"New songs of all types are started from January to be worked on for the later concerts.
"Newcomers are therefore not at a disadvantage to the existing members in learning them.
"The choir's motto is 'Friendship through Song' and a warm welcome is promised.
"There is no need to be able to read music just an interest in singing songs of all types.
"As the choir was founded in 1955, the plan for the year is to sing material from the seven decades since."
Macclesfield Male Voice Choir meet at 7pm Monday evenings at Broken Cross Methodist Church.
