A rock-themed coffee business from Macclesfield have gone green, with sustainable packaging to benefit the environment.

Rocks Off Coffee, which was founded at the start of the pandemic, will now pack their varied coffee blends in fully-recyclable aluminium cans.

Their coffee blend cans, which start from just £6, can last you months.

Macclesfield Nub News spoke to Co-Founder Jason Palmer (38).

"It is our same great coffee, same great taste, in the same grind options - full beans, filter, espresso, and more - just with new one hundred per cent recycled packaging," he said.

"Our target audience is gig go-ers and music lovers - so a can shaped product is quite a familiar one!"

Aluminium cans are one of the world's most recycled products which carry substantial environmental benefits.

Recycling aluminium uses 95% less energy than producing it from raw materials. It also saves 97% of the greenhouse gas emissions produced in the primary production process.

Recycling 1 tonne of aluminium saves 9 tonnes of CO2 emissions and 4 tonnes of bauxite, the raw material from which aluminium is made. 1 tonne of CO2 is equivalent to driving over 3,500 miles.

The production cost is the same as the previous packaging used by Rocks Off, but they chose to go all-green as they feel everyone must play their part.

"On the back of our new labels, along with the benefits of using recycled products with have a quote that goes 'If you think you are too small to make a difference, spend a night with a mosquito'," Jason explained.

"We all have to do our part and it is easy to make small changes these days that will make a big difference, no matter how small it may seem."

Macclesfield Nub News last spoke with Rocks Off Coffee in April.

They have considered getting a physical store, but due to the uncertainty the pandemic has brought, they are currently remaining as wholesale and online.

"We had a great year supplying coffee to festivals such as Isle of Wight festival," Jason recalled.

"Being their official coffee partner was incredible - we also worked with some great bands such as Embrace and Slow Readers Club and we'll be doing more of the same this year.

"As well as coffee we have a totally new range coming soon too, in the way of IPA's, and other canned beverages. There just isn't enough hours in the day at the moment but it's all great fun."
