Cheshire East Council is urging residents to have their say on transport plans in Macclesfield.

A residents' consultation remains open until 31 January, with responses collected used to shape the future of transport and parking provision in towns across the borough.

Cllr Laura Crane, cabinet member for highways and waste, said: "Cheshire East's local transport plan identifies a need for greater harmonisation of parking arrangements across Cheshire East.

"This parking consultation, alongside the development of town vitality plans, aims to engage with all stakeholders to ensure we have a broad strategy for the next five years that considers the economic, environmental and community elements that car parking brings. So, I would encourage people to take just a few minutes to fill in the online questionnaire and share their views."

Officials plan to extend car-free zones in the town centre, and improve walking links to the railway station.

Another proposal is to "consolidate" the Jordansgate and Grosvenor multi-storey car parks due to "low utilisation".

As well as transport within the town, the council says it aims to improve links with other areas with schemes such as improving canal towpaths for cyclists and improving public transport.

You can view the plans and make comments on the consultation on CEC's website.
