A Macclesfield woman jumped out of a plane to fundraise for a new pool at Park Lane School.

Teaching assistant Lydia Lomas, who joined Park Lane school 22 months ago, bravely skydived to fundraise for a new pool for the Macclesfield school.

The institution, which teaches kids right up until they become adults, provides excellent support to SEND pupils.

However, their swimming pool needs urgent refurbishments, including the hydrotherapy features of the pool, which are of great enjoyment to the children.

But thanks to the generosity of 40 people, Lydia has smashed her £500 target and raised over £845 to go towards the pool costs.

Lydia explained how the crowdfunder came to be.

"I love working at Park Lane School, I came here after I was made redundant from my travel job after 26 years.

"The skydive was my Christmas present from my husband last year, and I thought to myself, if I'm going to do it, I might as well make some money for charity.

"It love this school. It is so rewarding working here. And the pool is a huge benefit to the children.

"It needs refurbishing, it has to have a new heat pump, and the changing room needs redoing. The pool needs retiling as well, and we desperately needed funds to get this done.

"112 come here to Park Lane School and at least 30% would regularly use the pool.

"Currently we are teaching the swimming provision at Macclesfield Leisure Centre. Some of the children are obviously very poorly. They need wheelchairs, and it is not always as easy to transport them away from the school.

"Also the hydrotherapy pool here is warm, but Macclesfield Leisure Centre as great as it is, is not warm.

"If they are less mobile, the water gives them that freedom.

"Thank you to everyone who has donated so far, I have nearly doubled the target I set out to get.

"I will still accept donations for a few more days. The more money we get, the faster the pool can get finished."

The pool was last in use earlier this year, and refurbishment has now begun with Lydia almost doubling her goal.

After years of waiting for the much-needed repair, the pool's vital renovations are hoping to be complete by 2023.
