A young cricketer from Australia has joined Macclesfield Cricket Club.

Jack Mattsson (23), who usually plays for Carlton Cricket Club in Melbourne, Australia, has continued a tradition of their best young talent coming to Macc.

His older teammates Evan Gulbis and Nick Ross have played for Macc in previous seasons, and put Jack up for the new challenge.

The Aussie who started playing cricket as a boy in the suburb of Williamstown, spoke to Macclesfield Nub News about how he can't wait to get started.

"I think it will be a really great opportunity to get some experience playing in different conditions of cricket," he said.

"Hopefully I can become a better player because of it, and take the skills I'll learn here in Macclesfield back to Australia.

"I'm looking forward to meeting some new friends and have a great time as well."

Jack is keen to start his first training session with our town's club, and play for them until September 2021.

It is his third time he has been to the UK, but the first time he has lived abroad.

"I just arrived last week. The weather is crazy," he added.

"When I arrived it was nineteen degrees [Celsius] and sunny. But in recent days, it has been pretty cold and wet.

"I feel when it is really sunny in the UK you have to make the most of it - it can rain at any time."

You can watch the young wicket keeper at the Macclesfield Cricket Club this summer on Victoria Road.

He will also serve behind the bar at the club. For more information please head to their website
