A heartfelt appeal to the people of Macclesfield has been launched to help pay for a dog's cancer operation.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier was diagnosed with a cancer tumour in his tail.

The emergency op has been complete to save his life, but his human friends would be eternally grateful for assistance in contributing towards the vet costs.

The bills were so high as it took multiple vet visits to figure out what was wrong with the male mutt.

Macclesfield dog mum Sarah Whalley said "He's cancer-free, but we have gone through a long process of realising why he was poorly.

"It took us a while to notice that he needed to go to the vets. He's an absolute madhead. Staffies are known for being high maintenance.

"Just before he started his treatment, he collapsed at the door and I thought he'd had a stroke or heart attack.

"He wasn't eating either. Turns out, he had just broken his leg. [Which has added to the vet costs].

"Storm has never been poorly, but like a storm can be, it has all come at once.

"He's nine now and is such a lovely boy who has been through a lot.

"He had to be put on steroids which made him lose a load of weight. It was a brand new treatment they only introduced this year, so it was quite expensive.

"We did not have insurance due to also having six rescue cats, three of which had known health issues, so we thought we would put money towards their treatment instead."

The GoFundMe page is slightly out of date, with the family still having £1300 of their £2000 vet bill to pay.

They are thank for the Macclesfield communities' help.

"We first got Storm for my son as an autism support dog, he'd always wanted one, and I felt like it would help him. We've had him since he was eight weeks old," added Sarah.

"Storm is so sweet with children and cats. And is very grateful for anyone's support.

"Thank you so much to those who have donated to our crowdfunder. We are struggling, my son is too.

"It doesn't matter even if it is just a pound. It is very much appreciated.

"It was very traumatic, I couldn't cope with seeing him in so much pain. He was on the wrong pain medication at the time as they thought he had to have his tail docked.

"Unfortunately, this was incorrect. But it was too late, the nerves had died in his tail and he had to have it removed.

Bond Street Vets on 1 Ryles Park Road.

"We thought the vets were going to charge us for that as well, but the vets [Bond Street Veterinary] were amazing and took the price off which was very good of them.

"Today, Storm has a little waggy stump and has put all his weight back on. He's on his way to being discharged as well."
