Macclesfield driver 'very lucky' to be alive after drystone wall crash

By Alex Greensmith 3rd Dec 2021

Almost a week after the cold snap begun, our rural roads are only just opening across Macclesfield.

But one was shut again today as a collision happened today on a Sutton street.

The road up after The Leather Smithy Public House to Forest Chapel is now clear.

A Cheshire Police copper described the driver as 'lucky' to be alive.

It was documented by Cheshire Rural Police Officer Sgt Rob Simpson.

He said: "Even though its only just above freezing, there's still plenty of ice around and tonight the temperature will drop again."

"This collision occurred earlier today up in Macclesfield Forest - Ice and speed played their part no doubt.

"The owner was arranging their own recovery but this has failed to materialise. I'm now having it recovered using police powers to prevent the hazard becoming more of an issue as it gets darker.

"Very lucky to walk away from this roll-over after colliding with a drystone wall.

"Having spoken to the Peak District Ranger too, it's important to note that many side roads are very icy still so please do take care if visiting the area. You never know what might be upside down around the next corner!

"Please adjust your driving to suit and expect ice and other hazards in our rural roads. Thanks all."

The driver was not hospitalised after the accident, on Thursday's icy morning. And their condition has been described as 'fine'.
