Macclesfield eye clinic ready to welcome first NHS patients

A purpose-built eye clinic in Macclesfield is ready to welcome its first NHS patients.
SpaMedica's clinic at Tytherington Business Park is now accepting NHS patients with a range of conditions that impair vision and limit quality of life.
The move will help towards the NHS's 10-year blueprint to deliver care in community settings and could support more than 13,000 people living with wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), cataracts and glaucoma in the Cheshire East area.
Centre manager Kerry Moseley said: "Our purpose-built facility in Macclesfield will make a significant difference to people living with sight loss in the region.
"This is hugely important, given that in Cheshire East, rates of both cataracts and AMD are estimated to rise by nearly 30% by 2032, with glaucoma cases expected to increase by 20%.
"The good news is that these conditions are treatable.
"So, if you've noticed any unusual changes in your vision, book a check up with your optometrist. Once referred to us, we ensure patients can access high quality care that is convenient for them."
SpaMedica's community diagnostics and treatment centre in Macclesfield opened at the end of 2025.
Patients referred to SpaMedica Macclesfield with cataracts will receive vision assessments within the Fernbank House building, followed by surgery in a theatre suite such as Sale or Newcastle-Under-Lyme.
A free door‑to‑door transport service is also available for cataract patients.
For those with AMD - which affects central vision and is a leading cause of blindness in the UK - testing, monitoring and treatments are delivered under one roof.
Earlier this month, SpaMedica confirmed that they are now offering glaucoma services in Macclesfield, including monitoring checks and care.
