Macclesfield FC Sign Four New Players In One Day - Including A Familiar Face to Macclesfield

By Alex Greensmith 7th Jun 2021

Macclesfield FC have announced four new signings to come play at the Leasing.com Stadium.

The first of the outfield signings to be announced was one familiar to Silkmen fans. Kieran Kennedy played for Macclesfield Town FC, before the former club ended and was replaced by Macclesfield FC in October 2020.

He will return to play in our town's ground on Moss Lane for the 2021/22 season.

The 27-year-old defender was part of the title-winning Macclesfield Town team which were promoted to the Football League Two in 2017-18.

The club had this to say on the familiar face returning to Macclesfield:

"Kieran needs no introduction to the Silkmen faithful, after being part of John Askey's glorious 2018 National League title winning side," they said.

"The six-foot defender made thirty-two appearances for Macclesfield Town during that historic season, scoring once in a 2 - 0 victory at Chester.

"John rated Kieran so highly that he took him to League One side Shrewsbury Town in the summer of 2018 and further to this, he would go on to sign for Wrexham the following year. Kieran was then briefly reunited with John Askey at Port Vale, before returning to Wrexham on loan during the 2019/20 campaign.

"Kieran arrives at the Leasing.com Stadium eager to play his part in what is becoming another incredible Silkmen story. We wish Kieran every success during his time at the Leasing.com Stadium."

Ryan Rogers was then announced shortly after as the next new player for Macclesfield FC.

The 21-year-old winger has played for Gretna FC and Glossop North End.

It was at the latter club where he impressed current Macclesfield FC Assistant Manager Peter Band, when Band managed the Derbyshire club.

He has signed on a one-year contract. Macclesfield FC fans can follow him on Twitter @RyRogers.

The third signing recently announced was 18-year-old defender Adam Owen, who is a versatile English defender.

He has played above in tiers Macc's current league, for teams such as Oldham Athletic and Stockport County.

Last season, he played on loan for Ashton Town, who play in the North West Counties League Division 1, which is the league below Macc.

The final signing to be announced so far for our town's new club is Portugese player Braulio "Edy" Maieco.

The 24-year-old is six foot and three inches tall, so will be sure to get on the end of lots of crosses and corners, for the Silkmen's debut season.

The forward, who can be followed on Twitter @EdyMaieco10, most recently played for Northern Premier League team Clitheroe in September 2020.

The fourth signing of June (so far) also has connections with current Macclesfield FC Assistant Manager Pete Band, from their time at Glossop North End in 2019.

Edy will come to Macclesfield on a one-year contract.

The quartet of new footballers will play in Macclesfield FC's debut season in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division.

With an average age of just over 22, there is a significant statement of youth with these new signings.
