Macclesfield: First homes on former King's School site on sale

The first of hundreds of homes earmarked for the old King's School site in Macclesfield have gone up for sale.

The scheme, which was approved last year after debate and concern from nearby residents, is being co-built by Leicestershire company David Wilson homes who have revealed the first properties going on the market.

The house builders have partnered with iconic Macclesfield furniture store Arighi Bianchi to create an exclusive sales and marketing suite for its new development in the town, which has been called Kings Park, in reference to the previous use of the site.

Kings Park, located on the former grounds of the distinguished King's School, on Fence Avenue, Macclesfield, is set to become one of David Wilson Homes' most exclusive developments and will bring 300 high quality new homes to the area.

The first batch of properties up for sale are three and four bedroom homes, ranging from £430,000 to £570,000.

There will be a range of two to five bedroom homes, including affordable housing, the latter of which doesn't appear to be on the market yet.

12 affordable homes were discussed for the site in April, to the disapproval of Labour Macclesfield councillors.

The homes claim to be energy efficient, and all of the currently available homes are detached.

The brand new housing development aims to honour the history of the site. The roads at Kings Park are to be named after the former Headteachers of Kings School, as the diagram below demonstrates.

Meanwhile, the main road is named after Kelly Smith, a Maxonian who raised awareness for bowel cancer at a national level, but sadly passed away in June 2020. She was just 31.

After acquiring the land, David Wilson Homes leased the site back to Kings School so that they could continue their studies uninterrupted whilst the new Prestbury school campus was finished. The 80 acre Alderley Road, state-of-the-art premises which cost £60m was finished in July 2020.

Back to Fence Avenue, housebuilder has opened a sales suite within the five storey Arighi Bianchi showroom, located on the Silk Road, and will be kitting out the development's future  show homes with a range of furniture and accessories hand-selected by the retailer to showcase how the new homes can be stylishly furnished.

Philippa Stewart, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes North West is elated to work with a Macclesfield business to furnish the new homes.

"We are extremely excited to be entering into a partnership with such an outstanding business in Arighi Bianchi. Their principals perfectly align with our ethos of community outreach and familial values and we could not envision a more ideal union.

"As market leaders, this partnership symbolises the beginning of what will not only be incredibly important to the area, but our customers will be able to indulge in the highest quality in all aspects of their homebuying experience.

"We would like to invite anyone interested in moving to the Macclesfield area to visit Arighi Bianchi and meet our David Wilson Homes team for more information on the future of Kings Park."

King's Park will be located on Fence Avenue, Macclesfield, SK10 1LT.

Sarah Bianchi, Managing Director of Arighi Bianchi, said: "We're well known for having the best concessions for furnishing a home in the region – from our Kitchenality brand to our flooring, carpet and window dressing

concessions – and now people can come and buy a brand new house from our store as well!

"Having the David Wilson Homes team based in the store means that potential homeowners can not only find out more about the development but get inspiration on how to furnish it – browsing our room sets and sofas, dining tables, lighting and more. It really is a one-stop-shop for new home buyers."

Sarah added: "We are always delighted to partner with developers in the region and we're looking forward to unveiling the new show home interiors at Kings Park soon that will be packed with our latest products and styled by our team to show some of the latest trends in interior design."
