Macclesfield flower shop to celebrate one-year anniversary
A Macclesfield flower store is about to turn one.
The Flower House, of The Pillars, 10 Park Green, opened one year ago this week.
They have what could be Macclesfield's largest selection of fresh flowers. Aside this, they have indoor plants and plenty of gifts for Christmas.
Beverley Coghlan and Megan Sharpley are the women behind this small business success story, which saw a long-vacant town centre building find purpose once again.
Macclesfield Nub News met with Bev on the day of their Macclesfield anniversary to find out about the business.
"It doesn't feel like it has been a year. It has gone super fast.", said Bev.
"I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last year, because without you, we couldn't do it.
"We have felt so welcome, it has been amazing. We love being part of the community."
The building - which was once derelict - was historically the former Barclays bank which shut in 2001.
The Macclesfield residents have turned the building from dilapidation in to regeneration.
The old bank vault remains a charming feature of the shopfloor, and the history of the site is proudly displayed in-store.
The Flower House sells homeware, as well as flowers and houseplants.
"In recent months, we have added a lot more new interior decor and home accessories," explained Bev.
"We've got a lot more home fragrances for sale, and we have launched our own-brand candles with Macclesfield's homemade candlemaker Holistic Earth.
"We also have lots of workshops, and have Macclesfield artists such as AmeliaArt, Courthouse Collective, and Francesca Wild exhibiting and selling their work here.
"The workshops include flower arranging workshops, wine tasting events with Knowles Green Creative Tasting and pottery painting in the evenings as well.
"We recently started a supper club with Macclesfield caterers Feastable, and we have nine wreathmaking workshops across the festive period as well.
"Our next available workshop is a candlemaking workshop on January 25.
"Following that, we will do our second wedding fayre.
"Our first wedding fayre had 16 vendors and went really well. The next one will be on Sunday April 7.
"Over the next year, we will be trying to do a lot more events, so keep an eye out on our Facebook for that."
To the left of the shopfloor, is a separate business called The Thistle Coffee House, who are also celebrating their first birthday.
As well as being only one of two stockists of Buxton Roastery in Macclesfield, they pride themselves on a vast selection of homemade cakes and bakes. They have a daily soup special which will prove popular this winter.
Many of which, cater to specific dietary requirements like coeliacs and vegans. Thistle also have a mini deli which stocks Macclesfield produce like Fruits of the Forage and Cheshire Honey.
With the flower shop and coffee shop sharing a space, a vibrant, warm and conversational atmosphere has been cultivated.
"We love being part of Park Green, there is a lovely hub here," revealed Bev.
"There are so many fantastic small businesses in Macclesfield, and I just hope that people continue to shop locally as well, because it is really important."
To any budding retailers who want to complete an ambitious retail project of their own, Bev had this to say: "Just sometimes you have to go for it."
"We took one look at this massive space, walked in and thought 'this is going to be a big undertaking'.
"But as soon as we walked in, we knew how incredible it was, and wouldn't it be amazing if we could use it.
"We can't quite believe that we are here!"
To celebrate their first anniversary, this Saturday they will have a birthday party in-store. There will be a 10% discount off all The Flower House products, and a special offer at The Thistle Coffee House.
Funds will also be raised for Cardiac Risk in the Young, through a raffle with prizes to win.
They even offer a subscription service to have flowers regularly delivered to your door. Click HERE to shop online.
