A few commenters on Facebook have stated that we should do more to support Macclesfield's independent businesses, and these are principles that Macclesfield's FREE online newspaper were founded on. So please enjoy this celebration of 23 independent businesses we have profiled this year.

2023 has been an interesting year for Macclesfield's high street.
We began to get a real picture of how the town would be impacted by the closure of Marks and Spencer and the opening of the out-of-town Barracks Mill Retail Park.
From those ashes of negativity, come the establishments of collectives like Totally Local Macclesfield and Made in Macclesfield to champion supporting independent business.
The Treacle Market has been stronger than ever, and Macclesfield Town Council have packed out Market Place with seasonal-themed events.
We've seen intriguing new businesses crop up from life-long Maxonians following their dreams, to new companies by some of Macclesfield's new Ukrainian or Hong Konger residents.
So for the third year in a row, Macclesfield Nub News is looking back to profile 23 new Macclesfield businesses that have opened in 2023.

2C9
Located inside Macclesfield Indoor Market, 2C9 is a street food eatery which opened in July.
The small, but carefully curated menu tours Hong Kong, Korea and other Asian cuisines.

AFGHAN PURE LTD
Also in the Indoor Market is this new Afghan rug store.
Started by a person who fled Afghanistan in 2021, the business is open on a Saturday only, but can be viewed all week round.
They sell luxury rugs and spices from Afghanistan, supporting their economy.

B&V Trading
Opening all the way back in January was B&V Trading, the dog store has all your toys, food and accessory needs for your dog.
Located on 17 Chestergate, they already run successful sites across Cheshire, and were previously known in Macclesfield for pop-ups at The Picturedrome.
Now, they have their own Macclesfield town centre store.

Beef N Berry Bistro
Opening in September was Beef N Berry Bistro.
Started by the team that originally conceived Chestergate Bistro before they moved on, their new business is located where BETFRED used to be on Chestergate's east side.
They are open for lunch and evenings, Wednesday to Saturday.
Bollington Yoga
The first of two yoga businesses on the list, Bollington Yoga opened on Palmerston Street in Bollington this February.
Boasting 18 different types of yoga, and a trapeze studio downstairs, the business has become a hub for all things wellness.

Bspoke
A new biking business opened in Bollington in the summer.
Macclesfield resident Chris Bateson opened bike repair and custom bike-making business Bspoke in Clarence Mill.
Technically not a brand new business, as he started it in his garage, but certainly new in regards to a 'high street presence'.

Cornershop Coffee
Experienced Macclesfield barista Pete Milne took the plunge and opened his own coffee house this year.
Cornershop Coffee opened in September. The Brock Street business has artisanal vibes and a rotating cast of guest roasteries.
There are many coffee shops in Macclesfield, but not many individuals know as much about the brown beans than this man.

CRATE Cheshire Macclesfield
CRATE Cheshire came to Chestergate this June.
The new barbers is where Vic Campbell Cakes used to be.
It is the expansion of a hair business already with a big presence across Cheshire.

Dick's
Not to be confused with the sporting goods brand of the same name, Dick's General Store launched in Macclesfield in May.
A culmination of the regular markets held inside the Picturedrome, Dick's is a mini gift shop located inside the entrance of The Picturedrome.
They are open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Dukes Deli
Friends Kyle Frost Morgan and Helena Dawson opened a café in central Macclesfield back in April.
Dukes Deli is located where Courtyard Kitchen was before. The breakfast and lunchspot is open every day except Monday.

Early Bird Bakes
Early by name, early by nature, opening at the start of 2023 was Early Bird Bakes.
Located where Fishers Groceries used to be on Buxton Road, Early Bird Bakes boasts fresh bread, pastries and cakes.
They proudly use local ingredients - where possible.

Mia's Treacle Bites
Found where The Cheshire Gap used to be is Mia's Treacle Bites.
Serving hearty food with an Eastern European twinge, this family business serves homemade food with top quality produce.
Modern Woolfare
A one-of-a-kind business, Modern Woolfare is the passion project-turned business by Macclesfield resident Brian Painter.
The veteran honed his craft during lockdown, and makes bespoke wool garments that travel the world.
His first in-person store for his products can be found inside Macclesfield Indoor Market.

New on King Edward Street this year, is NAGA Beauty and Spa.

Onyx
A state-of-the-art yoga studio opened in Macclesfield in September.
Onyx, named after a healing crystal, also has special classes like hot yoga and baths.

Macclesfield had zero bubble tea businesses at the start of the year. Now, they have three.
The first of three bubble tea sellers to open was Pearl T Macclesfield back in June.
They Asian drink specialists are located where Henbury Travel was on Chestergate before they moved.

A premises left empty for three-and-a-half years was filled this October, as SALA The Royal Thai Spa moved into 74 Mill Lane.
As well as massages you may be familiar with, their USP is a postnatal massage for new mums.

The Cave
There are not many nightclubs named after a Mumford & Sons song.
The Cave Macclesfield opened up on Mill Street this summer.

Part of Buxton Road's burgeoning foodie scene, Tommy's opened up early in 2023.
Having honed his craft doing mobile pizza catering for events Bollington resident Tom Higgins opened up his own venue in east Macclesfield this February.

New to Mill Street was this Macclesfield-made Mexican.
Tres Burritos started by three housemates, has become an indie eatery success story.

A recent opening, Tomlinson and Gray opened their doors in October.
The kitchen and bathroom business is ran by Macclesfield residents, who use local tradespeople to get the job done.

UTEA Macclesfield

In recent years, we've noticed a trend that some new businesses in Macclesfield like to open on Treacle Sundays. And UTEA Macclesfield did just that.
The bubble tea sellers have a selection of almost 50 milk or fruit teas.

Violet Salons is a hairdressers, whereas SKN Cheshire is an aesthetics business.

Another ceramic business to open in Macc this year, Woe Studio is a Mill Lane business ran by Macclesfield's Elle Barnett and Ted Scoltock.
They also sell fancy plants, as well as hosting workshops.
