A new artisan coffee shop will level up the coffee game in a residential part of Macclesfield.

Cornershop Coffee, on Brock Street in Macclesfield, opens their doors on Friday September 1.

The building was previously a corner shop, with the name partially referencing that, but also its location.

Macclesfield barista and business owner Pete Milne is the man behind the new mini-café, which focuses on high quality blends you can't get anywhere else in Macc.

"The whole point of the place is a friendly, neighbourhood coffee shop," said Pete.

"That's why I've kept the reference to a corner shop, because that is what community and neighbourhoods are all about.

"I've always wanted to open my own space."

Pete is Macclesfield born-and-bred, and is a former pupil of All Hallows.

His deep interest in coffee stretches back ten years, and he honed his expertise working for fellow independent Macclesfield coffee shop Yas Bean.

"I really like my job for the community side", added Pete.

"I love chatting to people, and getting them to think about drinking different styles of coffee.

"I look forward to meeting the locals. I myself live in the centre of Macc."

The coffee shop will be split in two, with one side for people who want to hang out for a few hours to work or study with a book or laptop. The other, is a social area where people can chat and have a catch-up.

But both sides of the layout will be enjoying top quality coffee, which is value for your money.

You can also get a drink to takeaway. The venue is dog friendly too.

"We're a multi-roast shop", explained Pete.

"So every time you come in, there will be a different coffee on. It will never be the same.

"Our house espresso for example, will be seasonal and single-origin.

"I want to be serving from the best roasters in the world."

Most of the equipment purchased is secondhand to minimise waste, and Pete wants to work with sustainable and ethical suppliers.

And he's also helped out like-minded local businesses, with the mugs coming from Macclesfield's Pen-y-bont Ceramics and in-store bakes coming from the new bakery on Buxton Road.

Bollington-based artist Soph Hock has done art for the store.

"I always used to walk past this premises and thought it would be a good spot", Pete also said.

"I was originally going to open near the train station but when this came on the market I immediately snapped it up.

"On opening day, we'll have flatbreads to eat and four amazing coffee blends on.

"From filtered water to the fresh milk we use, everything we look at is with great attention to detail."

With the new houses at the old King's School and the new McCarthy Stone home, the catchment area that can walk to Pete's new Brock Street site gotten much bigger in recent times.

Cornershop Coffee's opening hours are Tuesday to Friday 8-3, and Saturday 9-3. This means that they are opening at 8am for this Friday's opening day.

"My message to the people of Macc would be, come in, relax and chill out," concluded Pete.

"Macclesfield has been on the up for the past few years. Macc is big enough now to have nice bohemian types of places [like this]."
