Rail strikes will affect Macclesfield once again this weekend.

According to the Trainline, you'll usually find 73 trains per day running between Macclesfield and Manchester Piccadilly, which usually take 29 minutes to complete the 16 miles.

But this won't be the case on Friday. As no trains are going to Macclesfield to Manchester on Friday September 1.

There will also be no trains to London this Friday, all due to industrial action.

Customers are being told not to attempt travel on Friday 1 September – when the train driver's union, ASLEF, go on strike.

And it is not just Avanti and Northern, with the CrossCountry train which stops at Macclesfield and travels to places like Birmingham or Oxford will not be running as well.

On Saturday September 2, rail users are advised to check timetables, as while the strikes will formally end on September 1, operators are likely to be running a reduced schedule like they did with last weekend's strikes.

In addition, there will be more disruption for rail users in the coming days, but not related to the strikes.

This is as Avanti West Coast will also be operating an amended timetable from Sunday 3 to Sunday 10 September due to planned engineering work by Network Rail in the Northampton area. As a result, there will be a slightly reduced service across routes and trains may be busier.

Andy Mellors, Managing Director at Avanti West Coast, said: "We're sorry our customers will face disruption to their journeys when ASLEF and RMT members go on strike later this week. For many this is the last weekend of their summer holidays and with no services on 1 September and a significantly reduced timetable on 2 September it will severely impact their plans.

"The advice to all our customers making journeys on 2 September is to plan ahead, check before you travel and be aware of your last train home. We'd like to thank our customers for their continued patience and understanding.

"Any customers with tickets for 1 or 2 September can make their journey on alternative days or claim a full refund."

Northern and CrossCountry have also been contacted by Macclesfield Nub News for comment.
