A brand new bakery has rose to the occasion, as they thrived in their first few months despite a cost of living crisis.

Early Bird Bakery offers artisanal breads, pastries and savouries on 217 Buxton Road.

Business owner Lynn Hopkins opened the business late last year, and has employed two other staff including co-baker Sarah Hatton.

Things are going so well that Early Bird Bakery is now after another baker to help expand the business.

Macclesfield Nub News met up with Lynn and staff for a chat.

"We are a neighbourhood bakery who wants to be a part of the local community," said Lynn.

"It was always my dream to have a place where you could see things come out of the oven.

"Everything is made here throughout the day, and it is lovely seeing the same people come in each day.

"It is quite rare to find a premises where you can produce things and sell things on the same site as well, so that is one thing that sets us apart.

"We want to be sustainable. We use Wildfarmed flour, which is a more sustainable method of flour.

"The flour costs a bit more, but that is a conscious decision as we want to do our bit for the environment, but we do not pass that cost on to the customer.

"The quality is amazing and it tastes fantastic. We think it is as we ferment our bread for longer than other options.

"Everything we do from quality and pastries, we use long fermentation.

"Supermarket loaves take three to four hours from start to finish, our bread takes 48 hours.

"As a result are working here six days a week, even though we can only currently be open for about half of that.

"So we need another baker to take us to this next level."

They're currently open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

But with another full-time baker, there will be more oven-fresh rye and sourdough for locals to enjoy and for more days of the week.

Early Bird Bakery are not the only new foodie face on Buxton Road. More recently than Early Bird, pizza place Tommy's has just opened a few doors down.

"Thank you to everyone for your support so far", added Lynn.

Lynn's love of baking came from her grandmother. She left the corporate world a few years ago after pursuing a course at the School of Artisan Food.

"They have been so welcoming. There's such a good community on Buxton Road.

"We are where Fisher's used to be, and it is great to see lots of faces who used the grocers still come here to support us too.

"On this row we are developing a nice cross selection of independent businesses."

They would also like to expand their product range to things like sandwiches, should they hire a new baker. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

Their pork and bacon sausage role (£4.50) is their best-selling product. Both filling and pastry are made from scratch.

They also sell tote bags, to promote their plastic-free bring-your-own bag eco-credentials.

The meat is from Spearings Butchers on Park Green, elsewhere Congleton and Stockport suppliers are used to boost the store's love of localness.
