There's a trendy new food business in Macclesfield, filling in a very tasty gap in the market.

2C9 Macclesfield have opened their doors inside Macclesfield Indoor Market, The Grosvenor Centre.

The street food eatery is ran by Macclesfield residents Tammy Cheng and Lavina Sze.

The small, but carefully curated menu tours Hong Kong and other Asian cuisines.

"We've been friends for over 30 years", said Tammy.

"We moved from Hong Kong to the UK in 2021, and both our families have lived in Macclesfield since 2022.

"We love Macclesfield, the people here are really friendly.

"2C9 - "2" refers to the two of us me and Lavina; "C9" refers to housewives (a slang in Cantonese). "C9" can be pronounced in both English and Cantonese easily.

It is an open kitchen, so you can watch the care and attention Tammy and Lavina put into their food. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

"We would like to give an new variety of food to locals. We hope this can add a new spirit to the town and the market, getting the market to be crowded again.

"This is food that we have been familiar with all our lives, and want the Macclesfield community to enjoy."

The food isn't greasy, or too filling, it is just right. A testament to the handmade craft they put in their products,

There's chicken like chicken you've never tasted before, with satay sauce, which melts in the mouth.

Other highlights are the Hong Kong-style Curried Fish Balls and the Fish Wonton, both costing just £3 each.

With the exception of the delectable Chicken Pad Thai, most of the dishes are ready in less than five minutes.

"Street food culture is big in Hong Kong," explained Tammy.

"If you want somewhere to have a quick bite to eat after work or studying, you come get a little portion of street food before you head home for your big family meal."

Please note, it is a card only business. Cash payment unavailable. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

The opening hours of the new venture references this part of Hong Kong culture, with the opening hours being 9:30am to 4pm, shutting before the evening.

Other dishes include Beef Rendang with Roti and Korean Seaweed Rice Roll, which makes up for Macclesfield's lack of Korean food in town.

There's fresh milk bubble tea to drink. They also serve Hong Kong-style coffee or tea with milk served ice cold, which Brits may scoff at before trying, but the taste is intensely flavourful and refreshing.

"The response has been amazing," added Tammy.

"The people are very nice and have been giving feedback. They love the new element it brings to the Indoor Market.

"Thank you to the community for their support so far."

2C9 is open from Monday to Saturday, 9:30am to 4pm.
