A traditional English pub near Macclesfield has a new publican and a new menu to go with it.

The Robin Hood in Rainow, has been taken over by landlady Karen Lawrence.

The only pub in the village of 1200 people since 2011, the pub was took over by Karen in the spring of 2023.

Karen, who has lived in our area since 2001, has ran three pubs in our area.

At one point, she was running The Crown, The Royal Oak, The Cotton Tree in Bollington.

She then went to work for other people, such as Hollin House Hotel to Assistant Food and Beverage Manager at The Tytherington Club.

But she's come full circle to run a pub on her doorstep once again.

"A friend of mine encouraged me to get back into running a pub," said Karen.

"When I saw this was available I put my name down straight away. I have always loved this pub.

"I'm really excited about the fact that the food is going well."

The biggest change Karen has implemented is the new food menu.

Working together with chef Sadi Batmaz, they have curated a pub menu with both traditional classics and European influence.

Which makes up for the fact that Rainow has no other restaurants.

Karen and Sadi met working at the former restauraunt Briscola in Bollington.

"The best-sellers are classic fish and chips, along with our beef burgers," said Sadi.

They also sell alcohol free beer. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

"My signature dish is a Special Duck Breast with forest berries, red wine, little bit of port, served with fresh spinach.

"We could introduce themed nights as well, where we pair international cuisines with wines.

"I enjoy working with Karen, she let me create my menu. We share ideas together. Allowing us to mix a little bit of pub with Italian cuisine.

"It is a great opportunity for me. In the future, I will keep changing the menu, but with the ethos of half-pub, half-European. And we'd love to hire another chef."

Like Karen, Sadi has worked in kitchens since he was a teenager. Sadi has worked as a chef in the Macclesfield area since 2013.

"We are currently undergoing discussions about what renovation work needs to be done," added Karen.

"This includes improvements to the function room.

"We'd also love to introduce more pub games, because in winter in Rainow there is nothing to do.

"I just want to keep doing what a good community pub needs, and that is serving the community."

This is evidenced by the fact that a patch of the pub's land is able for Rainow Primary School pupils to plant seeds.

They also have gorgeously-furnished rooms that can be booked on Airbnb, are named after White Nancy, Kerridge and Lamaload.

The pub is dog and walker friendly. There's also a gorgeous beer garden and a spacious carpark.

Kids are also welcome, and there's plenty of outdoor space for them to play.

They have a quiz night every Wednesday, and will have a bingo night on August 12.

The Robin Hood is located on Church Lane, Rainow, Macclesfield SK10 5XE.
