Many Macclesfield Nub News Facebook commenters say our town needs more small independent shops to get people into the town.

Well, one has just opened and is certainly one-of-a-kind.

Woe Studio is a home decor and plant shop located on Mill Lane.

The charming creative little store has unique plants you can decorate your home with, and artisanal ceramics made by the Macclesfield residents that run the shop.

The business is opposite the new Crossings apartments, which opened last year. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

The couple that run the shop - who live just around the corner from it - are Ted Scoltock and Elle Barnett.

"We sell a combination of the things we are passionate about", said Elle.

"I studied decorative arts at university, which included ceramics and have specialised in it since.

"And we both have a mutual obsession with plants."

"I also used to work in Flourish flower shop on Chestergate when it was open", said Ted.

"So as well as the knowledge we've gained from personally owning lots of different types of plants, I can use my retail skills from that."

Plant items for sale include terrariums (ecosystems in a glass), cacti and large potted plants.

And the ceramics side of the business will also hold workshops where you can make your own pots, they're about to start as the kiln for the new business has just arrived.

They are open to all ages, and you will get to keep what you made forever.

Message them on social media for more information on this.

"We try and sell more unusual plants, you can't really get terrariums in a corked glass elsewhere in the local area," added Ted.

"We can't compete with B&Q and we never will.

"And we tend to stock plants that compliment the pots Elle makes as well."

Woe Studio is open six days a week, Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

The name, which stands for 'where on earth', represents the ethical and eco-positive message of the small business.

"As our ceramics are mostly handbuilt, each piece is one-of-a-kind which makes your purchase even more special", added Elle.

Former Macclesfield Academy pupil Elle's love for ceramics began at Mid Cheshire College. She then went on to study at Nottingham Trent University. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

"You can feel more of a connection with the maker of ceramics that are made by hand, as you can see the fingerprints of the maker.

"It is almost like you are selling the process as well."

As well as their brick-and-mortar store, Woe Studio are also offering a plant care service.

If your office or business wants or has indoor plants, contact Woe and they will sort you out.

Ted will come over and take care for the plants on a regular basis, to allow them to thrive.

They offer an affordable rate, and want to work with more Macclesfield businesses with this service.

Indoor plants create more oxygen in a room, and and some science reports say reduce stress levels.

Macclesfield businesses which Woe cares for their plants include The Park Tavern on Park Lane and The Fountain on Park Green.

"It is a nice idea to think that our plants and pots are spreading around Macclesfield," concluded Ted.

"Thank you to the people of Macclesfield for your support."

Woe Studio is located on 3b Mill Ln, Macclesfield SK11 7NN.
