Recuperating from COVID, rising energy bills and the cost of living crisis.

It has not been easy for Macclesfield independent businesses, however the small business-minded people of Macclesfield and Nub News have got their backs 365 days of the year.

Here are 22 businesses which opened their doors in Macclesfield in 2022.

George in the Jungle

Flourish Macclesfield shut on Chestergate's west side last winter to focus on their Macclesfield sites.

However, former customer and florist Georgie Brown saw potential in the business model and opened a plant shop under her own name back in July.

George in the Jungle is a family business, as Georgie's only other staff member is her mum. Read more about them here.

Piccante

The Copper Room shut in the summer, but by December a new tenant had moved in and opened.

Piccante is an Italian-Brazilian fusion restaurant, which promises a dining experience like no other.

The trio behind the new restaurant also have eateries in Congleton and Prestbury.

They're located in the iconic Charles Roe House, next to Dominos Pizza on Chestergate.

Aspen's

Alpine-themed bar Aspen's Bar opened in Duke's Court in November.

They have unique quirks from claiming to be the only place in Macclesfield that serves beer in stein glasses, to board games for the family to take part in.

They describe themselves as 'Macclesfield's own answer to the bars at Manchester's Christmas Market'.

DUKEBOX

Another Duke's Court bar, DUKEBOX is an 80s and 90s karaoke bar that opened in Macclesfield in the spring.

Like Aspen's, they benefit from a late night licence in the part of Macclesfield which has comparisons to Manchester's Northern Quarter.

It is the latest bar by Macclesfield entrepreneur Kyle Frost, who also runs NO. 8 DUKE'S bar in the court, along with a mini-beauty business empire.

The tech for the bar is provided by Cheshire gaming machine company Grange Valley Amusements.

Olive Open Kitchen and Deli

Olive is located on a corner plot on Mill Street, adjacent to Roe Street and opposite Macclesfield Bus Stationl. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

Having the buzz of a busy city grab-and-go lunch spot, Olive opened inside the long-vacant Subway building on Mill Street.

The independent eatery offers Mediterranean treats, and even allows you to build your own salad with quality Southern European ingredients.

Georgian Tea Rooms

On 43 Chestergate you will find this relaxed, blast from the past.

Georgian Tea Rooms offers handmade afternoon tea, classical music and a calm vibe.

It is started by two sisters who live in Macclesfield.

They hope to expand upstairs in the building, which what used to be La Caldera.

Loola Loves

From candles to bracelets, posters to diaries, Loola Loves has you covered with gifts loaded with personality and charm.

This indie gift shop graduated from a Macclesfield Indoor Market stall to a permanent premises on 67 Chestergate.

Loola Loves, by Louise Bullock, is found inbetween YumYum and Slam Jam Music.

While Louise is a big believer in the high street, she also has a website store with free delivery across Macclesfield.

All Things Nice

A Marple business stretched their wings across Cheshire as they opened in Macclesfield in the autumn.

All Things Nice is a high quality brunchspot which also has a deli.

All dietary requirements are catered for, at the venue which opened on September 30.

Bollington Vapes

Kieran Ledgar has opened a new vape store in Bollington, and plans to employ his wife once their toddler settles at nursery. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

Bollington's first e-cigarette store opened their doors on 6 Grimshaw Lane near the controversial new Tesco.

Dad Kieran Ledgar is stocking some Macclesfield-made e-liquids at his store, which first served customers in May.

As vaping rates continued to increase, so did the need for a vape shop in Bollington.

Dolly Daydream Cakery

Opened by the Mayor of Macclesfield in July, Dolly Daydream Cakery is a striking presence to new visitors of our town, being located on Queen Victoria Street near Macclesfield Bus Station.

The striking floral signage and hanging baskets are complemented by the sophisticated, Instagrammable furnishings inside.

And the cakes equally as elegant. Businesswoman Hollie Williams is from the Moss.

Turquoise Garden

There are 22 starters, eight soups, and 49 mains. There's also 21 sides, and traditional Chinese dim sum. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

While Wings Kitchen shut, Turquoise Garden rose from the ashes. This new Cantonese restaurant on Park Green finally opened after a three-year revamp which was hampered by COVID.

The restaurant is bright, modern, but also serving your old Chinese food favourites.

BOHOTEL

An independent hotel to compete with Macclesfield's Premier Inn and Travelodge opened this year, and it is the closest of the three to the town centre.

Boutique hotel BOHOTEL has six rooms, and a bohemian vibe.

Suburban Green

Broken Cross resident Cal Gregg-Williams is a Co-Owner of Suburban Green Macclesfield, and moves from their successful Wilmslow establishment to get the new bar going. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

Suburban Green, which is located next to BOHOTEL on 88-90 Chestergate, offers long opening hours plus a luxury food and drink menu.

First opening in September, it claims to be the only place on Chestergate where you can get breakfast at 8am.

With large windows letting in lots of daylight, the atmosphere of the place changes at night as it turns into a swanky bar.

The Monocle

Not completely knew, but still a business that went under a rebrand.

In the summer, Monocle Deli became The Monocle as new owners came in, one of whom is from our town.

They have retained the small but quality brunch menu and love for the arts.

ROOTSTOCK

Bollington's first plastic-free refill shop opened on Palmerston Street back in February.

Get your dry and canned groceries, along with toiletries, without damaging the planet at ROOTSTOCK.

They also stock products from Macclesfield.

Just Fruit and Veg

Keeping within a similar theme, a greengrocer opened on Chestergate in Macclesfield this December.

Based where Lord of the Pies used to be,

Macclesfield resident Mark Boswell is the sole staff member of the new venture.

Wood Fire Smoke

The most recent to open on the list, having served their first pizzas on Monday December 19, Wood Fire Smoke is the second Wilmslow business to expand to Macclesfield this year following Suburban Green.

Macclesfield-born pizza-lover Samuel Burrows and his team have brought a bring your own booze pizza restauraunt to Macclesfield.

They have brought eight jobs to Macclesfield.

They have a viral presence on Instagram with their stuffed crusts and dips.

Urban Vixen

A trendy new bar launched in the autumn on Mill Street.

Urban Vixen was the long-awaited replacement for Macclesfield's former Revolution bar.

With trendy decor, photo features and drag or live music events, we hope this venue is here to stay.

The Earl of Mercia

Named after Edwin, Earl of Mercia who held Macclesfield before the Norman Conquest of 1066, this charming little bar opened in the second weekend of December.

They serve top-of-the-range beers in a cosy oak-coloured setting.

It is next to Pachamama on the characterful cobbles of Church Street.

You Think It We Print It

New to Macclesfield Indoor Market, You Think It We Print It opened in September.

Simeon Rains

Macclesfield resident Simeon Rains opened up an independent company called Simeon Rains in Association with the Good Estate Agent on Waters Green.

His family have been selling properties for over seven generations. They offer free valuations, and work on on Bank Holidays, Saturdays and Sundays, to work round their clientele's busy lives.

The Flower House

This Bollington business expanded into an iconic Grade II listed building in Macclesfield earlier this year.

The Flower House is located on 10 Park Green.

They are open 9.30-5.30 Monday-Saturday and 10-4 Sunday.
