A Cheshire company which provides gaming and leisure machines for pubs or clubs has decided to sponsor Macclesfield Nub News.

Grange Valley Amusements have opted to pledge funds towards Macclesfield's online newspaper, to help spread the message about their products while supporting independent journalism.

The business has been proudly Cheshire-based since its inception, and is a family business with eyes on expanding in Macclesfield.

Grange Valley Amusements Director Tony Gatley explained why they have decided to support Macclesfield Nub News.

"Grange Valley Amusements supply fruit machines, jukeboxes and pool tables from a hundred mile radius across north west", he said.

"We lease and maintain them, and keep a great relationship with our customers.

"Grange Valley Amusements started initially in 1969, it was started by my business partner William Birch, who is currently 87-years-old.

"I bought into his business in 2006, when he had about 40 machines. Now we have 400 machines across the region."

The business has always been Cheshire-based, and is now seeing to expand into Macclesfield.

They currently have equipment in local businesses such as Silktown Snooker Club, Dukes Court karaoke bar Jukebox, No. 8 Dukes and Prestbury Village Club.

"When you work for yourself, you can work when you want, and the good thing about this job is that if you have 400 working machines in the pubs and clubs on a Saturday and Sunday when you are enjoying your weekend, people are out there enjoying your machines so you are also making money.

"That's why for me it is the best job in the world.

"What is great about the gaming machines and jukeboxes now is that they are all updated online.

"Every week the machines updated with new content, whether it is a new roulette, poker game or the latest chart songs.

"It is great because it means you don't have to go in and manually update the machines. But we still come and collect the change every few weeks and keep in touch with the pubs and clubs that choose us.

Tony's four sons work in the business, and his wife helps out too. They have eight staff in total, and are based in Warrington.

His fourth son Matthew Gatley, met with Macclesfield Nub News at Silktown Snooker Club on Glegg Street.

"It is amazing to work in a family business, we are so close", said Matthew.

"When your dad is your boss, it is so easy-going but you make sure everything gets done.

"My favourite game is fishing frenzy which is on our new Blueprint machine. When I go out I will have a little gamble on that one. You'd think I'd get sick of the games because it is my job, but I don't. My mates joke that I know how to win, but it is just pure luck.

"We don't see the future of the industry going the way of paying by card. Coin-operated games are much more convenient, and then there is the security aspect of losing your card."

Silktown Snooker Club recently invested in two Grange Valley Amusement gaming machines and one jukebox.

Their Manager Tom Livesley spoke about what he liked about their products.

"We decided to work with Grange Valley Amusements the other month, and the locals already love the machines a lot," he said.

"The variety of games they have got on there is huge, and it doesn't feel like you are playing the same game constantly."

"The touch screen element and design is great as well. It has definitely taken the place by storm and helps create a real buzz.

"The jukebox is great too. We play lots of indie, 80s and 90s tunes here. And will be during the World Cup too.

"We couldn't be happier with Grange Valley Amusements. The Gatley family are really good. It is very easy to contact them, not that there have been any issues that is."

Tony likes working with small independent businesses rather than big breweries, so it is appropriate that he has chose to pledge to support Macclesfield Nub News, and help get the word out about his business.

Nub News CEO Karl Hancock said of the partnership with Grange Valley Amusements: "We are delighted to work together. Thank you for your support.

"Like Nub News, Grange Valley Amusements is a small independent business, and with expands to grow locally, so we a natural fit to work together."

"I'm delighted to have partnered with Macclesfield Nub News," said Tony.
