Cynics could say that Macclesfield has too many nail bars, however, there aren't many quite like this one.

Located on Chestergate's west side, MT Nail Studio is ran by Tan Morris-Tran.

The one-man show provides bespoke nail art from his clean and bright studio on 121 Chestergate.

MT Nail Studio are celebrating their one-year anniversary this week.

"I have been doing nail art for almost half of my life," said Tan.

"I'm 28 now, and have been doing nail art since I was a teenager. Our family business is in textiles, but my mum opened multiple nail bars in the 2000s as there was a boom in them.

"I started to help out there, and I enjoyed it as I had an interest in art in school. I really enjoyed watching painting on a small canvas [a fingernail], and seeing what you can do on that is fascinating for me.

"So I knew from a young age, that is what I wanted to do.

"I chased an academic career. But after the lockdowns, I had a lot of time to think whether I wanted to do what I love, and took the plunge to start the business."

"We opened on November 17 2021. This has been the best year of my career so far. Thank you to all my customers for your support. The businesses around here have been great too, we're all a little community on this row."

What sets Tan and MT Nail Studio apart is a huge emphasis on hygiene.

There are two air filters preventing both him and you from breathing chemicals in, a plastic screen and a face mask clad-Tan dividing customer-to-client, and there is even a robot floor vacuum.

"I think we are one of the best nail studios in Macclesfield because I absolutely love what I do. There's nothing that I dislike about my job. I thrive in the environment," he added.

"We have a huge emphasis on health. When people have issues with their nails over time it is often due to hygiene or poor aftercare.

"So as well as making sure we have state of the art hygiene equipment here, I do offer my customers lots of aftercare advice.

"My customers find that if they follow these tips that they don't have to come here as often, saving them money in the long-run.

"Some of my clients can go as long as two months without changing their nails, and I post regular care tips on my social media for them as well.

"The technology I have in here is to protect you and me. I have top-of-the-range air purifiers for bacteria, viruses and dust.

"The nail desks themselves have purifiers in them as well - as well as a space to charge your phone - so I am pretty sure I am the only nail business in Macclesfield to have these state-of-the-art tables.

"My ethos is to be kind, transparent, with a mindfulness on health. I know all my customers by name and really enjoy chatting with them.

"I didn't know Macclesfield that well when I arrived, but I saw the passing trade and the vibe on Chestergate and knew at first sight that I had to move here.

"What I love about Macclesfield is the community here has cultivated a mindset of supporting small local businesses. I personally feel I am lucky to be a benefactor of that culture.

"I used to live in a small town in Cambridgeshire, and Macclesfield reminds me of that community. There is such a diverse mix of people who look out for each other, and I like that.

"And since I have moved here, lots of empty units have been filled up with new businesses similar to me as well. The hair and beauty businesses on this part of Chestergate are like a little community together, we all support each other."

One customer said about the job vacancy: "If you go for a job here I hope you keep the very highest standards Tan delivers. He is the best!"

And looking ahead to their second year in business, MT Nail Studio have decided to take their business to the next level, by sponsoring Macclesfield Nub News.

The business is currently hiring.

"I am in the same boat as Macclesfield Nub News," explained Tan.

"We're both new and establishing further links into the town. We are both community-driven and love to help out each other. And it is great to have Macclesfield Nub News do the same for me as well."

Further into the future, Tan also hopes for his business to expand into offering more beauty treatments.
