There's one less empty unit on our high street, as a new Mediterranean deli has opened in town.

Olive Open Kitchen and Deli opened in Macclesfield on Friday October 14.

Owner Kemal Cakli lives just eight miles from his new business, and saw an opportunity on 77 Mill Street after the Macclesfield town centre Subway shut down.

"Olive is somewhere where you can get decent, honest food at a reasonable price," said Kemal.

"We're called Olive as my family are from North Cyprus, and my colleague Michele Loruso is Italian. We built it together, and we have 17 years experience between us.

"Michele designed the interior, we built it all ourselves by hand. And all of our sandwiches and salads are handmade as well.

"We decided to have an open kitchen as we wanted everyone to see how passionate we are in making the food.

"[Quite like the South European way of life] We work in a very family-oriented atmosphere, and want to embrace that with other people as well really."

Food includes all-day breakfast baps, and freshly-made soup.

Working lunchers will enjoy the build-your-own sandwiches and build-your-own salad from £4.50 and £3.65 respectively.

Mediterranean ingredients you can have in the salads span red pepper hummus to multiple varieties of olives.

There are traditional British pasties, quiches and salads alongside Greek, Turkish and Italian favourites as well.

The best-sellers so far have been lamb or chicken samosas that are the size of your hand, to Portugese pastel de natas, and Italian gluten-free cannolis.

An inviting window display also has mini croissants, bread, rocky road and more.

All pastries are either made or cooked on site, and they are looking to link up with independent Macclesfield bakers.

"We're looking to work with local bakers as well," added Kemal.

"If there is anyone in the Macclesfield area that would love to stock their cakes here, we'd love to hear from you.

"Our coffee is our own roast. You can bring in your own cups as well.

"Plant based milk is an option. We cater to specific dietary requirements.

"We have an app which also has allergy information on as well. And we take cash as well as card.

"For the first four days we have been opened for so far, lunchtime has been packed.

"I'm having to bake the pastries twice a day at the moment. Thank you everyone for your support.

"I'm originally from Manchester, and I like Macclesfield for feeling like a mini-city, but also feeling local.

"This is from the vibe, the mix of people, the array of ethnicities.

"The response from local businesses has been massive for us too.

"They've been coming in to have a chat and support us by buying things as well."

Olive Open Kitchen and Deli is open Monday to Friday 7:30am to 3:45pm.

On Saturday they are open from 8am to 3pm.
