Macclesfield's Food Festival which was due to be held on 4 July has been cancelled, the town council has announced.

The town council has also cancelled the Foodie Friday events which were due to be held on the first Friday's of each month over the summer.

In a social media post, the council wrote: "2020 was going to be the year of the re-launch for both of these and we feel that they can no longer be the events we hoped they would be due to the impact of social distancing rules."

Efforts will go into giving the events "the best possible chance of being a success" in 2021.

The Food Festival, which takes place in the town centre, would normally feature food demonstrations, street and artisan food stall as well as offerings of local drinks and craft beers.

Last year's event attracted thousands into the town who enjoyed the variety of food and drink on offer by stallholders.
