A Macclesfield brewer is celebrating a decade of brewing a unique beer.
Wincle Brewery are in the process of brewing the tenth edition of the Bengal Buttrress.
The Indian Pale Ale uses hops which were picked in England just hours before the brewing process begins.
And as the harvest is in September, this is the best time of year to experience their beer at its tastiest.
"The freshly-harvested light green hops give a vibrant flavour to the beer," said brewery owner Giles Meadows.
"And we use a lot of them.
"We came up with the idea on a trip to Kent, where hops are grown, and we saw how green they actually are this time of year.
"I hadn't heard of the concept of green-hop beer, until then. They are wonderful, complex, insensely-flavoured beers.
"The complexity in particular you just don't get with dry hops."
Hops lose their bright colour the further away from harvest they are being used. With colours ranging from a darker green, pale yellow to dark brown, which can all affect the final look and flavour of a beer.
But green hops - while in a limited window of time - is a special time of year for all brewers. And Wincle Brewery are taking advantage of it with ten years of brewing Bengal Buttress.
The Bengal part of the name references a former name of the country India, and the fact the drink is an Indian Pale Ale.
The latter half of the moniker is named after a feature of a nearby hiking spot.
"A Buttress is a climbing pitch on The Roaches, in Leek," added Giles.
"Hence the climbing hook on the label.
"We will produce 15 brewers barrels. It is available from Tuesday September 19 in cask.
"It doesn't bottle well as with time you lose intensity of the flavours, so this is a cask only beer.
"The quicker we can get it out, the fresher and better it is.
"I think it is a really nice, varied addition to the brewing calendar. Why wouldn't you use the best, freshest ingredients when they are available?"
Macclesfield venues which will pour pints of the Bengal Buttress next week include The Castle in Macclesfield town centre, The Church House in Sutton and The Wharf in east Macclesfield.
The Poachers in Bollington and Sutton Hall may take it up as well. Contact details can be found on the image below, should your pub or bar wish to stock the 4.3% ABV beer.
And it is a double celebration, as Wincle Brewing Company are also celebrating their 15th birthday as a business this year.
Wincle Brewery is open from 10am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. They are also open 10am to 6pm Saturday to Sunday.
