Macclesfield: Hibel Road closed after incident hospitalises 88-year-old

Macclesfield: an incident has left roads closed and a pensioner hospitalised this morning.

At 11.25am on Thursday 13 January police were called to reports of a collision on Hibel Road.

Officers attended the scene and found the incident involved a silver Peugeot and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, an 88-year-old man, is believed to have sustained serious injuries and he has been airlifted to Salford Royal Hospital.

The driver of the car, a 33-year-old woman was uninjured.

Macclesfield's Hibel Road is currently closed westbound as a result of the collision and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

A helicopter air ambulance landed on the old King's School site on Cumberland Street, which will be turned into housing.

There remains a police presence at from the junction at Coare Street. Beech Lane residents should try to get home via alternative routes.

The Silk Road remains open.
