Lovers of art and craft in Macclesfield currently have an opportunity to look into the creative imaginations of our youngest generation at the King's School's community art exhibition.

Held at the offices of Anthony Collins incorporating Jobling Gowler on Park Lane, the exhibition features painting, portraiture, ceramics, glassware and digital art from King's students and Art teachers. And you can buy the pieces, supporting both the young artists and a local charity.

Rachel Richards, King's Art Teacher and Exhibitions Coordinator, said: "Knowing their work will be exhibited in the community is a real incentive for our GCSE and A Level Art students to produce their very best. It not only gives them a sense of prestige but also an insight into what the life of a working artist might be like.

Year 12 artist Kyna Willcock, who exhibited some pencil drawing portraits, said: "Exhibiting in the community is exciting but also a little bit nerve-wracking."

Hope Sutton, 19, who showed work from her A Level portfolio from last year said: "Studying art teaches you patience and perseverance."

"I found I worked by trial and error and that you rarely got the result you wanted the first time but had to keep trying out different styles and methods."

Eben Cooper, Year 12, who exhibited some stunning sculpted ceramic panels based on a traditional Kabuki theatrical mask, countered, "I actually made these in half an hour."

"After the initial kiln firing, I went back to add tone and contrast with oxide, which was then fired onto the clay to make it permanent."

Glass artist Daisy Buxton Rivers also features in the Park Lane exhibition. (Image - King's School Macclesfield)

Daisy Buxton Rivers, 16, who wants to go up to a leading art college, exhibited some elaborate and colourful glassware.

She said: "I am learning that producing art or craft is not just about the imagination but also about developing technical skills."

Alistair Fitzmaurice, who produced some stunning and highly original digitised imagery on circular backgrounds, said: "Actually, I never felt that I was very good at drawing, but then I realised I could express myself in the digital world. I loved my art course."

To extend its reach, the renowned Park Lane law firm Jobling Gowler, which has been in the town for over 25 years, last year merged with Manchester and Birmingham-based social purpose practice Anthony Collins.

Head of Office Emily Raw said: "Our community spirit is even stronger. For the last 20 years, we have used our office as a free-to-enter exhibition space and are delighted to continue our relationship with the King's School as part of the wider firm's purpose – to improve lives, communities and society.

Emily continued: "The artists donate a percentage of each sale to charity with this year's money raised going to The King's School chosen charity Visyon and to The Cheshire East Eye Society. Fundraising events like these form an integral part of our work and our values."

Visyon supports young people from the age of 11 to 19, with mental health care needs across Cheshire East.

Chief Fundraiser Linda de Sa, who helps to generate £880,000 p.a. to support this life-saving service, said: "Since Covid, but also simply with the increasing pressures of modern life, we are seeing more and more young people with anxiety and low mood who maybe be self-harming and having thoughts of suicide."

"We don't operate waiting lists, indeed, the longest a young person might have to wait to see us is 10 days.

"There is a growing demand and we would love to develop further the service and are very keen to partner with more organisations such as the King's School who have nominated us across many of their events."
