A second contestant from this year's MasterChef is coming to our area.

On Friday, MasterChef 2023 runner-up Omar Foster cooked a five course menu at Bollington restaurant KIRA by Sunitha.

Omar's first dish was a Japanese onion soup doughnut that he cooked on the show featuring John Torode and Gregg Wallace.

He followed this up with a modern twist on a Chinese classic - prawn toast.

Unlike the triangle shape most would think of, Omar subverted expectations and shaped the dish like a cricket ball, packed with flavour and complimented with fresh veggies.

A cocoa-coated lamb or spicy jackfruit main course followed, then a vibrant refreshing sorbet of coriander and pineapple tantalised the tastebuds.

The meal's climax was a parsnip ice cream, with even parts of the parsnips peel used, having been cooked in sugar.

The seasonal vegetable dessert was complimented with a passion fruit coulis.

Omar candidly spoke with guests, and for his admiration of what the Bollington venue is trying to achieve.

The event came to be as a photographer who had worked with Omar introduced them to the Palmerston Street restaurant.

KIRA's regular menu isn't shy to mix unique but ingenious combinations, so Omar and his cookie felt right at home.

And last weekend's event went so well, that another contestant from the BBC cooking show is heading to KIRA later this year.

MasterChef 2023 finalist Anurag Aggarwal is coming to KIRA on December 14 and 15.

The Essex chef, who placed third one place below Omar, will be cooking his own taster menu of dishes from the show.

"To me food is an expression of love, creativity, and happiness. Every dish tells a story and that is the story itself," he said.

"Come and join my 'Yatra' (journey) for an evening of culinary storytelling, where each course narrates a chapter of my MasterChef journey and my deep love for exceptional food.

"I can't wait to share this unforgettable experience with you."

The event is £70 for a 5 course tasting menu with a welcome drink.
