Macclesfield LGBTQ+ bar forced to close its doors for good

By James Kelly 12th Feb 2021

An LGBTQ+ bar in Macclesfield is being forced to close after the brewery which owns the premises did not renew the lease.

The Village @ Porters, located on Roe Street, made the announcement on social media this evening (9 February).

The post stated: "It is with deep sadness that we have to say good bye for now!! The Village - Porters has closed its doors.

"No we didn't give it up! We were forced out by the brewery who said we weren't selling the right amount of beer each week and their belief was that we'd turned the dial too much towards the LGBTQ+ community and they weren't in line with last years figures."

They added: "In essence we paid rent and kept a pub open through the pandemic and told us we'd look at a deal when we came through the other side of all this and then they sign a deal with someone else."

The Village @ Porter first opened their doors last July when pubs and bars were allowed to operate after the first lockdown.

The owners said they will now lookout for a new venue "very soon" and wished the new operators of the Roe Street premises well when they reopen.
