Meet the Macclesfield woman who has been serving delicious homemade food in our town's markets for the past decade.

Fatima's Kitchen began in 2013 as a Treacle Market stall, for which it is still a vendor for today.

Business was booming so well that the Macclesfield Mediterranean and Middle Eastern foodstall later moved into Macclesfield Indoor Market for a permanent presence on our high street.

Fatima's Kitchen is in the top left corner when entering from inside the Grosvenor Centre, or first on the right when entering through the double doors on Churchill Way,

Macclesfield Nub News met with Fatima Macalino, who is the only chef behind the one-woman business.

"Coming to Macclesfield and running my own business was a big opportunity for me", she said.

"I wanted to serve authentic food with the freshest ingredients. And today it feels amazing to be at ten years.

"My passion for cooking started with my family in the Philippines, we pass down a generational love for cooking. We love sharing our food with others.

Specific dietary requirements: Coeliacs, vegans and veggies are catered for on the menu. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

"The pandemic was hard, almost three months I wasn't working, and if it wasn't for the Treacle Market it would have been a very bad year.

"I have been very grateful for the support of the Treacle Market. But it was the Treacle Market which allowed me to expand my business into the Indoor Market, as there was nowhere near offering this type of [deli] food nearby."

Her food is freshly-made every day, preservative free, and affordable, with almost all of it being made from scratch.

She has only marginally increased her prices given the rising cost of living.

Which still also puts her cheaper than most Treacle vendors, lunchspots in Macclesfield, and indeed supermarket's in Macclesfield that sell mezze dishes.

Highlights of the mezze-based menu include mutabal and hummus, which can be enjoyed and mixed in with lunch options for meat and meat-free eaters.

"It will be four years this spring since I opened in Macclesfield Indoor Market", she added.

"I want people to realise the variety the Indoor Market has to offer.

She strives to offer high quality food at affordable prices, and keep food waste to a minumum. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

"I am a small independent, I love my community. I would love to see more modern and passionate independents come to develop here.

"I love this place. I have been through a lot personally in this kitchen, but it - and my customers - have been here for me."

If you haven't got time to head into town but want to try Fatima's healthy and homemade food out, you can ring up ELOV, another Indoor Market stall who will deliver lunch to you on an electric bike.

"My message to the people of Macclesfield would be to support us and give opportunities to small businesses," she concluded.

"And if someone starts a new independent business in Macclesfield like me, you should support it.

"We are a multi-talented town.

"Thank you for your support."

Fatima does not work on a Monday as she buys the stock for the week ahead.

Her business is open five days a week, from Tuesday to Saturday.

This is as the Indoor Market is closed as a whole on Sunday.

But of course, expect her on Mill Street at the Treacle Market every last Sunday of the month.

Every other non-Treacle Sunday she will be at local markets from Wilmslow, Leek and Rode Hall.
