Macclesfield: Morton Hall to go under the hammer this month

A former community building made during the Second World War is to go to auction.

The old Morton Hall Community Centre on Union Road, could not find a new tenant when it shut last year, as the trust running it decided not to renew their lease due to a lack of volunteers.

Cheshire East Council put it on the rental market last July, but they've now contacted Manchester's Landwood Property Auctions to organise a full sale.

The 6038sqft Macclesfield building will aim to be sold at auction on June 28.

The minimum opening bid is £140,000.

The building was originally a social club for Hovis mill workers, and as an air raid shelter.
