Macclesfield mother sets up crowdfunder to rescue an abandoned Turkish puppy
A Macclesfield woman has started a fundraiser to adopt an abandoned puppy who sought solace in her holiday apartment.
Kath Wright and her husband have been holidaying out in Kalkan, Turkey for the last 12 years. The neighbourhood is known for its vast number of stray dogs.
This year, Kath and her husband grew a personal connection with a particular stray puppy, Buddy, and have come back to the UK with a desire to adopt him.
West Macclesfield resident Kath told Macclesfield Nub News the story of how Buddy captured her heart:
"We were in our apartment, and I was just sat on the sofa at lunchtime and in through the patio doors came a tiny puppy, it walks straight in wagging its tail and lay down at my feet," she recalled.
"They are not allowed in the apartment complex and there are gates everywhere, but of course because he was so small, he just walked through them.
"He was exhausted and all he wanted to do was curl up somewhere and have a rest. I think he felt safe because it had found somewhere out of the heat. He must have only been 12 weeks old.
"When he woke up, we gave him a big bowl of water and off it went. We walked outside to watch where he went and it had gone into next door 's garden, but that was where he found out that not all humans like dogs. He was chased off the complex.
"After seeing this I had the conversation with my husband, I was basically worried sick for three days and every time we heard dogs barking outside, we hoped other dogs were not attacking the puppy. The busy roads were another major concern. We decided to help him to safety.
"Thanks to the power of Facebook, we managed to find him. But then we had to go home, We then contacted the charity KAPSA who helped us from there on"
The adoption of Buddy is no easy task, there is a series of events that must occur in order to bring the puppy over to the UK and the process will take around 4 months to complete.
The puppy must receive a certain level of vaccinations and tests to be able to travel. He then has to wait to receive export paperwork. Once these stages have been complete, he will be booked onto a special journey to the UK from Turkey, with a few other fur babies.
Buddy is currently with a Turkish foster family while this 4-month process is carried out.
Once he arrives in the UK, Kath already has a great idea for a loving home Buddy can be raised in, spending time with the family and gradually introduced to his fur-ever home.
"My son loves dogs," explained Kath.
"He has got ADHD and adopted a dog quite few years ago now. That dog is now 13 and I fear that it won't be here forever. So my plan is that Buddy will help to fill that very painful gap.
"We call him the Doctor Dolittle of dogs because he has this affinity with them that they just follow him everywhere.
"Dogs are a priority to him; they always come first. So, it will be brilliant for him having Buddy and he's agreed to take him on."
Kath's crowdfunder seeks £2000 to help get Buddy to Macclesfield. Kath has covered some of the expenses herself, but just needs a little help from her friends to complete the process.
If successful - the pup will be driven from Turkey to be reunited with the retired teaching assistant and her family.
