There is a new yoga class coming to Macclesfield, and it starts within days.

Substation on Queen's Avenue in Hurdsfield, will welcome a new yoga teacher next week.

Hurdsfield resident Kirstan Armitt will be launching her new yoga class on Monday afternoon.

Just turn up for 1pm, for an hour of ultimate relaxation, under the guidance of the local teacher who lives just around the corner.

Macclesfield Nub News met up with Kirstan to find out what her new class is all about.

"You can come as a complete novice and it is absolutely fine", she said.

"When I write my yoga flows, I do three different styles for beginner, intermediate and advanced. So there is something for everyone."

Kirstan, who has previously worked in end of life care, wants to grow her yoga brand promoting accessibility for everyone, a cause close to her heart as she has a disability.

"I had a stoke at aged 11," she recalled.

"I was in Hospital for months, doctors told my parents she would never walk again. But within six weeks I was back on my feet, which they were all amazed by."

It was as she could not work in palliative care while being pregnant during the pandemic, that she sowed the seeds to her yoga passion becoming a business.

"I'd do online classes, YouTube classes, it really got me thinking," she explained.

"Once my children were of nursery age, I thought 'right it is time to do my training and qualifications'.

"I find yoga massively helps with stress and anxiety. It has really helped me get to know myself again.

"If I'm feeling overwhelmed I'll do yoga. It has really helped with my flexibility, and funnily enough, with energy.

"It is something I can do at home, and my boys do join in. It is a bit of a release.

As well as yoga, Substation has climbing walls and a little coffee shop with bar. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

"If you're unsure on whether yoga is for you, just come down and give it a go. You don't need to worry about if your poses are perfect, I have been posing since my mid-teens. It is about being accessible, and enjoyable.

"The yoga station at Substation is a beautiful open space, and everyone I have met has been amazing. They have been so passionate about my ideas.

"At the beginning I will do two yoga sessions a month [every fortnight] and hopefully do more after Christmas."

Already a hub for yoga, Substation's demand for new classes makes sense, given the sad recent news that Pure Yoga Studio in Macclesfield town centre and transitioned to become a mobile business.

Substation was named after their building backing on to an electricity substation. It also references the climbing wall establishment's love of music. The site was formerly an engineering works. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

The new yoga sessions start Monday September 11, last an hour, and cost £10 per person. Book via 07742021984.

In addition to the new Substation sessions, Kirstan also offers one-to-one Zoom classes at £25 per hour.

She also offers meditation and printable yoga PDFs on her website.
