Macclesfield: Police are appealing for a man who intervened in an assault on a woman in Macclesfield to get in touch.

On the morning of Wednesday March 2 a woman was assaulted in Cedar Grove by man.

It took place at 7am, just a few minutes after sunrise.

A member of the public is believed to have challenged the suspect and then left the area.

As part of the investigation a 21-year-old man has been arrested.

He alleged assailant has not been named.

Macclesfield Police are seeking to speak to the intervening male whose identity and age are unknown.

DI Duncan Gouck said: "I'd urge this man to come forward and help us with our enquiries.

"I'd like to reassure him that he has done nothing wrong – we just need to get as much information as possible for our enquiries.

"I'd also appeal to anyone who saw a woman being assaulted in Cedar Grove that morning to contact us.

"That includes anyone with dash cam footage, or CCTV or doorbell cameras that may have picked up the incident."

"Anyone with information should contact Cheshire Police via this webpage, quoting IML 1213386.

"Alternatively information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
