A Macclesfield property firm wants to bring new flats and a commercial unit to the town.

Serenity Developments envision 17 apartments for Watersgreen House, on Waters Green.

The development, also known as Lomas Mill, aims to comprise one-bed, two-bed and three-bed properties.

The former silk mill dating back to the Victorian year of 1875, benefits from being located opposite Macclesfield Railway Station.

Although plans are not submitted yet, they hope to be very soon.

Jobs will also be created, as a new commercial unit is part of the development. Jon Wynne and Ian Roberts, of Serenity Developments, told Macclesfield Nub News about the project.

"Lomas Mill will be city centre living with a Macclesfield, Northern Quarter-style feel," said Jon.

"That means high-end apartments, with internal brick walls, old mill wall-style finishes and exposed beams," said Ian.

"Macc is going a bit like Manchester's Northern Quarter now, because you have got a lot of independent traders", told Jon.

A pre-application consultation phase has been held, where members of the public and councillors were invited to come and see and advise on the plans late last year. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

"So we are sort of bringing that city centre like-living to Macc, whilst the mill has significant history, it is also located right next to the train station.

"If you want that high-end city centre-style living but want to be in London two days a week, you can be on the train and there in an hour-and-a-half.

"And living here, you've got all the local benefits of Macc to benefit from as well. Combined that with the history, you are not getting that anywhere else.

"With the plans we've got where there is going to be an outlet on the ground floor with coffees and food-to-go, this development is going to be such a prominent part of Macclesfield."

Ideally, the commercial unit will go to a Macclesfield local independent trader, creating more jobs and supporting the town's economy.

"Hopefully we will submit the plans in the spring, from there there will be a determination period," explained Ian.

"We want to get a completed show flat first, so we can start marketing the rest of the apartments as they are being built.

"We think the plans are brilliant."

Ian, who is from and lives in Macclesfield, is excited for the town's future. He hopes all of Serenity's projects will reflect this.

"I see Macclesfield as a real opportunity, we have a good mix of housing, and with the train station links I knew there was potential to build a really great core business around this town centre.

"I think Macclesfield has a lot of positive change coming over the next ten years, if the town comes together and the Council gets on board, we can really push the town in the direction Stockport or Altrincham are on."

2024 will be a big year for Serenity, as it is their fifth anniversary, and will also see the completion of their Macclesfield housing project The Baths.
