Summer is in full swing, and Macclesfield countryside parishes really come into their own shining in the summer sun.

And Pott Shrigley's Annual Rose Queen Ceremony and Shrigley Stag Fell Race will take place next weekend.

The rural celebration will take place on Saturday June 17th 2023.

The picturesque village is busily preparing for the highly anticipated festivities.

The day kicks off with a procession led by the 2023 Rose Queen, starting at 2:00 pm from the village school's playground.

Accompanied by her entourage and enthusiastic onlookers, the procession will make its way to the village green where the grand Rose Queen crowning ceremony will be held.

This family-friendly event promises an afternoon filled with something for everyone. Ever-popular local covers band Retro Casino will provide live music, and there's a range of traditional activities including a dog show, BBQ, cream teas, beer tent, tombola, and a tempting cake stall.

Adding to the excitement, this year's festivities coincide with Shrigley Stag Fell Race — a thrilling 10k race featuring a challenging 290m ascent.

The race, starting at the Brickworks also at 2:00 pm, takes runners through hilly but runnable terrain, including the stunning backdrop of Lyme Park. Participants will navigate through Shrigley Hall and finally cross the finish line at Pott Shrigley Village Green.

Sponsored by Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa, the event offers enticing prizes, including a delightful dinner, bed, and breakfast experience at Shrigley Hall, courtesy of Running Bear who also generously donated the race numbers.

Whether you are a seasoned fell racer or looking for your first challenge, the Shrigley Stag Fell Race welcomes all runners. Registration can be done in advance at a fee of £12.00 for Fell Runners Association Members (£14.00 for non-members), or on the day with an entry fee of £15.00. To secure your spot, please visit the official event website.

Organisers said: "Don't miss this unique opportunity to experience the magic of Pott Shrigley's Rose Queen crowning ceremony and the thrill of the Shrigley Stag Fell Race.

"Join us on June 17th 2023 and be a part of the festivities that celebrate tradition, sport, community, and the beauty of the Cheshire countryside."

Admission to the Rose Queen event is only £1 per person.
