It looks like Poundland is leaving Macclesfield town centre, as their premises is on the retail leasing market.

Macclesfield Churchill Way property marketers Hallams have a web listing and a sign outside Poundland confirming that the Mill Street site is to let.

Spanning 2,500 to 9,785 square feet from 18-22 Mill Street, the site is now suiting a new tenant.

The building has a rateable value of £98,000.

A document on the Hallams website states: "Situated in the heart of Macclesfield's retail environment, 18-22 Mill Street provides an opportunity to occupy retail space in this thriving location within the town. The property is available by way of the whole property alternatively the property can be split."

Poundland's lease ends in December 2022, with the store closing shortly after.

It is not known how many jobs are at threat, however, there is another Poundland just two miles away.

This could mean that many of the staff with jobs at risk could be moved to the Poundland store in Macclesfield's Lyme Green Retail Park, SK11 0LD.

Poundland were approached by Macclesfield Nub News for comment.

"We're sad to be closing our store at Macclesfield Mill Street in January because the lease is coming to an end and we've been unable to agree economical terms with the landlord," a spokesman said.

"But we'll still be offering customers amazing value at our store at Macclesfield Lyme Green Retail Park. Where we close a store, it goes without saying we always work hard to look after colleagues directly affected."

Poundland did not confirm how many are currently employed at the Mill Street store.

It is not the only national chain leaving Mill Street. Across the road from Poundland is Marks and Spencer, which is also set to close in 'winter 2022-23'. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

The to-be-closed shop is next to Blue Tree Home, which opened in Macclesfield last month.

More information and contact details for interested parties for the Mill Street site can be found here.
