Macclesfield: A Prestbury footballer and their associate have both been charged with two further counts of rape.

Benjamin Mendy, aged 27, has been charged with two additional counts of rape."

Louis Saha Matturie, aged 40, has been charged with two additional counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

This is according to a statement from Cheshire Police, which read:

"Two men have been charged in connection with further allegations of serious sexual assault.

"The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised Cheshire Constabulary to charge two men in connection with additional allegations of serious sexual assault.

"Mendy, of Withinlee Road, Prestbury and Matturie, of Edwin Court, Eccles, have both been summonsed to appear at Stockport Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 17 November 2021.

"Cheshire Constabulary and the Crown Prosecution Service would like to remind everyone that criminal proceedings against Matturie and Mendy are live and that they have a right to a fair trial."

The two face trial tomorrow.

Withinlee Road resident Mendy remains suspended by his employers Manchester City.

The French defender played for the club once this season, in the 1-0 loss to Leicester City on August 7.

Mendy was first arrested on August 26.

Matturie was first charged on September 6.

City's No. 22 now faces six counts of rape and one of sexual assault, which relate to four complainants over the age of 16.

They are alleged to have taken place between October 2021 and August 2021.

Mr Matturie's alleged offences span March 2021 and August 2021.

He has been charged relating to four complaints over the age of 16, being six counts of rape and one sexual assault.

Mendy's Prestbury home, which has a football pitch inside, was moved into by him in 2018.

Both men are due to go on trial on 24 January 2022.
