A hotel which lasted for over 30 years in a Macclesfield parish is set to become six separate addresses.

The White House Manor of Prestbury's New Road has functioned as a boutique town house hotel since the 1990s.

However, a Cheshire East Council planning application has proposed a "change of use from existing hotel C1 use to a House in Multiple Occupation C4."

According to a planning document: "With the Covid pandemic and subsequent difficult trading position the business is now unviable in its current form. Business men and women have curtailed their travel."

"New, larger, more modern hotels with more amenities have increased local bedspace. The rise of Airbnb and booking.com has changed the business model.

"The changing trade environment has forced a rethink and a professional HMO style operation would suit The White House Manor. There would be 6 luxury en-suite rooms, communal kitchen, laundry and lounge.

"On-site parking, together with electric charging points and bike store would be provided. The proximity to the railway station and access to Macclesfield and Manchester would appeal to young professionals wishing for or needing independent living.

"The amenities of Prestbury together with its numerous and varied restaurants and bars and village vibe are very attractive to residents.

"Ryland and Judith Wakeham have extensive experience in this sector as they have owned a similar operation in London for over ten years. The six rooms are fully occupied most of the time."

The building, which has a basement, and three floors, opened as a hotel in 1991.

A decision could be made later this year.
