A Premier League footballer from Prestbury has been to court to face a new allegation of attempted rape.

Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy, of Prestbury's Withinlee Road, faces nine charges in total, including seven counts of rape, with six alleged victims.

The 27-year-old Macclesfield mansion resident appeared for a brief hearing at Chester Crown Court.

It was there where the defender heard his trial date confirmed.

The Prestbury resident will face trial on July 25, a few days following his 28th birthday.

But the World Cup winner is due in court on March 11 for a further hearing.

The France international, who was recently allowed to return to his Prestbury residence after months in a Liverpool prison, faces seven counts of rape, one of sexual assault and one of attempted rape involving a new complainant.

Anyone who makes an accusation of a sex crime is granted immediate anonymity.

The alleged offences include three counts of rape said to have happened on 11 October 2020, sexual touching on 2 January last year, two counts of rape on 24 July and two counts of rape on 23 August.

The left-back was arrested in August last year. The 2018 World Cup champion was suspended by Manchester City, when he was charged by police.

2022 is Mendy's fifth year associated Manchester City.

Co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, 40, of Eccles in Greater Manchester, is charged with seven counts of rape and three of sexual assault.
