The last show of the season by a Macclesfield performing arts group is about to begin.

Kiss Me Quickstep by Amanda Whittington will run from June 10 to June 15 at MADS Little Theatre, Macclesfield.

Set at the amateur ballroom and latin dance finals in Blackpool, the production will showcase more dancing and music than MADS's usual productions.

Macclesfield Nub News met with cast members to find out more.

Amy and Luke pictured at the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (known as NODA) North West Regional awards. Luke won Best Leading Male Character in a Drama for 'Macbeth'.

"We are glitter, we are rhinestone, we are big dresses," describes Amy Leech, who is playing a lead acting role in the show.

"It follows the story of three dancing couples, at different stages of their amateur dancing careers."

"It's about the dramas going on in their lives and on the dance floor."

"It's light-hearted; there's some comedy, some romance, some drama."

Amy is the Chair of MADS, and in this production she is playing one of the lead acting roles. She is also the choreographer and costume lead.

She explains that many of the cast have learnt ballroom and latin dances especially for the show, which is a difficult feat, but one they have taken to, "like naturals."

Luke Oldham, the director, draws on the parallels between the show and the real life passion and dedication of the MADS cast and crew, who are all volunteers.

"It explores what it takes to succeed at amateur level and what you need to sacrifice in other areas of your life to do this."

"They're doing this because they love it. It really resonates; I can see a lot of people here (at MADS) with the same ethics."

"It takes you through all the heartbreak and the emotion, and why it's all worth it."

"If Strictly is must-see viewing for you, you're going to absolutely love it."

The group will take a break over the summer before the new theatre season begins in September 2024.

Kiss Me Quickstep tickets cost £12 and can be bought here.
