A 101-year-old Macclesfield resident has shared the secret to a long and happy life.
Rowans Care Centre on Merriden Road recently threw a birthday party for resident, Joyce Shatwell.
Friends, family, staff and even the Mayor of Macclesfield joined in to celebrate the milestone occasion.
When asked about the secret to her long life, Joyce joked and said: "Nivea face cream and keeping as fit and active as possible."
Known for her warm and sociable nature, Joyce shared her wisdom, adding: "Always learn as much as you can about people and know everyone's business!"
Joyce was born on September 12, 1924, in Bradford.
She moved to Cheshire at 15, just before the outbreak of World War Two, completing her education at Stockport Grammar School.
During the war she worked as a machinist before going on to pursue her passion as a dressmaker and seamstress.
Joyce met her late husband, Eric, in a chance encounter on a train during the war.
They married in 1950 when Joyce was 26 and shared 44 happy years together, living in Scotland before eventually settling in Macclesfield.
Despite Eric's passing, Joyce continues to be surrounded by the love of her family, including younger sister Betty, now 99-years-old herself.
Today, Joyce is a popular and much-loved resident at the Rowans Care Centre, part of the Canterbury Care.
A staff member said: "Joyce continues to brighten the lives of those around her with her quick wit, kindness, and sociable spirit."
