Macclesfield Rugby Club have had a planning application refused to help promote their sponsor

New signage was wanted at Priory Park. However, Cheshire East Council have today denied for Macclesfield Rugby Club plans to introduce two new advertising boards at either side of their entrance.

They would have displayed the name of their sponsor Leasing.com, who also sponsor Macclesfield FC.

Coincidentally, Macclesfield Rugby Club was founded in the same year as Macclesfield Town FC (1874).

A planning document identified that the site was on Macclesfield's greenbelt.

The refusal document gave the reason of: "By virtue of their excessive size, prominent position and overall appearance, the proposed signage would have an adverse impact on the character of the local area. They would introduce visual clutter to the rural area beyond the settlement boundary. The proposal would therefore be contrary to Cheshire East's Local Plan Strategy."

The 3050mm x 1500mm aluminium panels were not planned to be illuminated.

Macclesfield Rugby Club will be contacted for comment.
