The Macclesfield Academy have had a 'phenomenal' year of GCSE results.

The Park Lane place of education was one of the 12 Macclesfield constituency schools which received their GCSE results today.

Among the success stories, was a heartwarming story of a staff member plucking up the courage to take up an exam in maths half-a-century after his last one.

Patrick Florence, volunteer Teaching Assistant at The Macclesfield Academy, achieved a grade 5 in his Maths GCSE this year.

Patrick sat his maths O level exactly 50 years ago in 1972, and took his GCSE maths this term alongside students at The Macclesfield Academy. Proving you are never too old to prove the doubters wrong.

Patrick said "The staff, especially Mr Richard Laverick really helped me with different GCSE revision techniques.

"I can now assist the students on their journey to maths GCSE next year."

Mr Mat Galvin, who has been Headteacher since 2021, was proud of all pupils' on GCSE Results Day 2022.

Headteacher of the Macclesfield Academy Mr Galvin congratulates student Josh McIntosh on his GCSE results.

"To our flagship year group of 2022 and all the school staff, we could not be prouder of your achievements," he said.

"Our students have been working relentlessly towards their bright futures in lessons, after school interventions, Saturday School and holiday revision sessions to put 'learning above all' and this dedication has paid off in a phenomenal set of results.

"This academic excellence is another piece in the jigsaw for a school on the up, with a multimillion-pound investment in our building, IT infrastructure and learning spaces.

"Behind every success we know there has been a battle against the odds to achieve potential despite the challenges of the pandemic. We would like to publicly thank all parents and carers for their support in achieving remarkable outcomes. These are exciting times to be part of the school community and we look forward with optimism to welcoming our alumni back into school over the coming year to inspire our younger learners to not settle for anything but the best."

Many students will go on to the neighbouring Macclesfield College.

Holly Hurst who achieved 7 grade 9's and two Grades 8s for her GCSEs. Congrats!
