A country pub near Macclesfield has closed their doors.

The Cock at Henbury has shut down at the weekend.

The most recent management, who ran the cosy pub for a year, had their last day on Friday.

The pub, located across the road from a new housing estate, shared the sad news last week.

The outgoing management penned a grateful Facebook post to the community.

"A heartfelt thank you," they said.

"We want to extend our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your incredible support and loyalty. Your custom has meant the world to us, especially during these challenging times.

"It is with a heavy heart that we announce this Friday will be our final day. We've cherished every moment with our wonderful community and are so grateful for the memories we've made together.

"Thank you, from all of us at The Cock, Henbury."

They later confirmed in a Facebook comment that the pub had shut down.

Macclesfield Nub News has contacted Robinsons Brewery for comment.

"As Julian, our pub partner stated, it's with a heavy heart that The Cock has closed," said a spokesperson for the brewer.

"We don't like to see our pubs close and we work hard to keep pubs open, we know and value the social importance of pubs.

"At the moment, with various disruptions including intermittent road works and building works, the business isn't maintainable. We will continue to keep an eye on the landscape in the area and hopefully conditions will allow The Cock to open its doors again in the future."

The pub, of Chelford Road, is currently not listed as a vacancy on the Stockport brewers website.

It is not the only closure of a business in Henbury of late, as Flora Garden Centre is also currently in its final days.
